Volunteer work in projects
A job market of a special kind
What kind of workers are you looking for?

"You never come back the same person you were before.
How can we create awareness, make changes, if we cannot benefit from new experiences and allow them to influence our thinking and our actions? 'You can change the world' means: sharing responsibility for our world as it is. By acting together, through personal commitment, and by making responsible decisions.” Helene Prölß, founder of managerohnegrenzen.

Global Volunteers - reviving this as a programme would be nothing special.
For decades, young people have been able to gather experience as volunteers, given the opportunity of contributing their commitment to projects worldwide. Often these volunteers have just come of age, have just left school or are just about to enter the world of work. For these young people, a host of special programs already exist.

So, what is so new about Managers without Borders?

Managers without Borders are older – 30, 40, 50 and beyond.
Managers without Borders are taking time out from their jobs to make a worthwhile impact in projects in other parts of the world.
They are people, many in the prime of life, in responsible positions. They want to share their decades of valuable on-the-job experience with project- partners who need their specialized know-how to get things up and running. They aim at leaving behind, when they go back home, local expertise that can get on with the job themselves. Through their volunteer work, these managers gain a personal, close-up view of the world as it is – far away from the 5-star hotels and comfortable corner-office desks they are used to. In other words, a win-win situation for all concerned.
People from business life, executives and budding executives share the unique experience of what it’s like working on the other side of the coin we call globalisation. An important learning process that sharpens the awareness of all on the job.

Managers without Borders practice the tenet of "give and take"

Managers without Borders roll up their sleeves, get down to work as volunteers with all their energy and all their skills in order to support and promote the development and goals of their particular project or community – they don’t take charge but give the input the initiative they’re involved in needs. It’s not about development aid in the traditional sense – it’s about getting to know one another on the same level, it’s about “what can I give that you need?", “how can we learn, in the end of the day, from each other?”. As a result, our managers return with a wealth of experience and lasting impressions from which, they ,in turn, profit a great deal in their workaday life back home – as we said, our tenet is “give and take”. It is not necessarily exclusively technical competence that is decisive here. So it is not always a "specialist" who comes to you as an advisor. Instead, what comes into play in dealing with the tasks on hand are the special gifts, whether they be technical, administrative or otherwise coupled with the heart, hands and common sense of the Managers without Borders.
